"Rarely do you come across such a collection of high quality musicians on one album. Jazz-rock guitarist Jac La Greca has pulled together his nearest and dearest for his project "Ipsis Quest" Together they have put together a masterpiece of jazz-rock that is comparable to the best" Frank Blades for Alternate View/ UK Ah buddy, this is one of those CDs you open, hit play and immediately you think, "Awesome, simply awesome! This a keeper!" La Greca and a stellar group of musicians make this one of the finest fusion releases out of France, (or the globe), I have had the joy of discovering. La Greca is incredibly slick and poised in his very jazzy approach to fusion. Right next to him in a inspiringly fluid handling of keyboards and piano is the formidable talent of Leandro Aconcha. Wow! Never boring but dazzling and tight on great bass lines are Remy Chaudagne, Yvon Le Pommelec, and Bernard Lanaspeze. François Verly and Herve Croce offer superb drumming to keep it all pumping, sliding, and flying along. Song compositions are all interesting and well-paced. I am eager to hear what La Greca will create next. Highest recommendations!EER-MUSIC is delighted to offer you one of the best fusion guitarists on this planet! John W. Patterson/Fusion Editor/All About Jazz http://www.allaboutjazz.com/ « With the first title ''Dao Dermo'' we
enter in a Fusion of good taste. Bill Bruford, Holdsworth, Corea,
Brecker, Tony Williams seem to have influenced the guitarist. This
dynamic blending reinvigorates our auditve meatus. The leader seems to
master at the same time the spontaneity of Jazz and the energy of Rock.
For La Greca, primacy always comes back to melody. Whatever is the
quartet, he has managed an evident unity, a real group sound. On the
whole, everything is perfectly mastered and performed (it's in the book
of specifications of the style). The following, more acoustic, it
should stand out against this electric success. Let's bet that the
leader will have come up with an other ''Magical Formula'', the last
title which is as marvellous as the whole album. »
"One of the best "Fusion" albums of the year" according to Alain Juliac. There is a constant polyrythmic inventiveness in the drum and bass duo, creating a perfect, ever exciting and moving rhythm allowing an osmotic development of superb melodies and this album is not pervaded by any lulls or weaknesses. The rhythm section may be one of the finest today in the european jazz-fusion scene with Remy Chaudagne (whose last album was realized with Peter Erskine) on bass and Francois Verly the drummer, who played with Randy Brecker, Martial Solal, Nguyen Le, Didier Malherbe,... Leandro Aconcha is one of the most extraordinary keyboard players and his dizzy improvisations bring emotion and sensuality. Last but not least, Jac La Greca has arrived to a great maturity in his guitar performance, as well as in his compositions which are rich and colorful. Alain Juliac "Ipsis Quest", begins on an extremely positive note with the album opener, "Dao Dermo," an energetic romp through some of the best modern jazz fusion you're likely to hear. La Greca puts his guitar through a serious workout without sounding like so many string shredding wankers have before him. Fast yet tasteful soloing is punctuated by some surprisingly wide interval jumps and mellower, jazzier passages are interspersed throughout the track. The composition quickly reverts back to the more powerful sections after these jazzy interludes, however, making this the most exciting and accessible track on the album. Other standout tracks include "Peine Perdue" and "Blue Ipsis" (which features some more really cool guitar soloing by La Greca) Reels « Here's a musician who has everything (even
a evocative name) to succeed in the line of guitarists of Jazz-Rock
tendencies. We would like the music to be less smoothed out and the
sound less polished. But we have to recognize the quality of work of J.
La Greca and Leandro Aconcha, his keyboard companion. The future is
theirs. » - ''Guitar
& Clavier'' « With a musical background that associates an education at Cim and mainly a work of an autodidact, Jac La Greca rapidly got interested in working on very elaborate compositions which found, after many concerts, their final form in the album ''Ipsis Quest''. His melodic research and his technical capacities show a musical personality which will be richer with a next record of more acoustic textures. » - Guitarist Magazine' La Greca favors a flowing, legato approach to the guitar and gives his talented ensemble a good deal of solo space, particularly fine pianist Leandro Aconcha. Perhaps the most interesting track is "Peine Perdue", which travels through modern fusion territory and which includes a contrasting solo swing section. "Tommy O" brings to mind Tribal Tech circa Spears and "Formule Magique" closes out the disc with some fine guitar-synth work from La Greca. -David Dorkin/Fuse Magazine « Without being demonstrative, this record is interpreted by musicians who know how to create new and esthetic ambiance's, even if they are often close to a Jazz Fusion at his best. ''Ipsis Quest'' is a record close to the perfection of different cross-bred influences canalized here by the best musicians of the European scene is this matter ; thus keeping, at the same time, freshness and vivacity. We are waiting for Jac La Greca and his next recording ! » -Art Zero « The group Jac La Greca / Ipsis Quest is composed of excellent musicians who are proposing sophisticated compositions of a very good workmanship. Very concentrated on their captivating music, the public didn't have any problem to let itself flow in the meanders of a Jazz which doesn't hesitate to make incursions in the rigour of Classical or the energy derived from Rock music. » - Le Parisien « A top level formation. Musicians of impressive possibilities showed all their know how in compositions which seem to relegate banality to well kept oubliettes » - Les Naiades / Jazz Club "One of the most interesting Musea production" Off Tylko" Poland « With a solid experience, the musicians played their refined music which resists to all the clichés, in proposing an amazing cocktail with zests of Free Jazz and English Progressive Rock. In turn rhythemed and meditative, it reveals a profound originality. » Le Parisien Régional « 24 years old Leandro Aconcha participated last May in a superb concert which revealed to the public, that had come to listen to him in Remy Chaudagne's formation, a great present-day pianist. He has given classical concerts since the age of 6 in Europe and the USA that stupefied critics ! Holder of first prizes from the conservatory of Milano and of Geneva, he has been dedicated, since 1987, to jazz. Endowed with a « Top Level » musical foundation, a flashing ear, and also a lashing technique; there is no musical style which seems to have any secrets for him... » - Keyboards « For this good record of Fusion we find musicians of the French scene who has already had many recordings. Jac La Greca, distills an electric music which is finally not very present on the current French Jazz scene. A must to follow up on. » - Ecouter-Voir « I brought a copy of "Ipsis Quest" incidentally which sounds terrific. Great innovative music, Looking forward for your upcoming album » Patrick N'Guyen, Honk Kong «Man...I just received your CD from Musea Records...been listening for it for about a week now...you and the musicians you've chosen to perform your compositions are ON FIRE !!! I've been playing the CD for my friends and they are all blown away...astounding and outstanding work and musicianship. I've said this before and I'll say it again...that tone you get is one of a kind and keep up the electric playing. Let me know and keep up the guitar virtuosity ! There isn't many who pursue that path with the individuality and originality your playing and compositions contain...Your CD is tops in my listening priority !!!» John Noble / California I listened to the extracts from your beautiful CD, the music is really great, you kick a lot of asses worldwide! By the way, I have a bunch of CDs from France, from Abus to Sixun, Nguyen Le, Louis Winsberg, Remy Chaudagne, etc. There is great music over there, I think the best in Europe.
